Location: Chicago, IL (Option for Hybrid, Remote work)Company: memQPosition OverviewWe seek a Mechanical Engineer to design precision hardware for memQ’s quantum networking systems. You will design UHV and opto-mechanical assemblies for neutral atom and cavity QED systems, and housings, fixtures, and thermal management for packaged photonic modules, taking designs from concept and CAD through fabrication, assembly, and qualification.Key Responsibilities- UHV & Opto-Mechanical Design: Design chambers, flanges, feedthroughs, in-vacuum mounts for optics, cavities, and photonic chips with attention to bake-out, outgassing, and alignment stability- Precision Mounts: Design stable, adjustable mounts for optics, fibers, and resonators with thermal/vibration management- Photonic Module Packaging: Design housings, fiber and RF interfaces, fixtures, and heat sinking for PICs- Analysis: Perform tolerance stack-ups and thermal/structural analysis (FEA)- Fabrication & Vendors: Produce manufacturing drawings with GD&T, work with vendors, and support assembly, leak testing, and qualification- Documentation: Maintain CAD, drawings, BOMs, and procedures under revision controlRequired Qualifications- Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering or related- Experience: 2+ years hands-on mechanical design (internships, co-ops, research count)- Technical Skills: 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, or similar) and drawings with GD&T- FEA experience (ANSYS, COMSOL, SolidWorks Simulation, or similar)- Hands-on machining/fabrication/assembly experience- Knowledge of vacuum hardware (ConFlat, KF), material selection, and precision alignmentBonus Points- Designing UHV systems for atomic physics experiments- Opto-mechanical design with lasers, fiber optics, optical cavities- Photonic or microelectronic packaging (fiber attach, die attach, hermetic sealing)- Cryogenic hardware experience- Python or MATLAB for analysis/automationWhat We Offer- Competitive salary and performance-based incentives- Equity options in a high-growth quantum tech company- Comprehensive benefits package- Professional development opportunitiesTo Apply: Send resume and cover letter to hiring@memq.tech.
