Quantum PIC engineer

memQ

memQ

Chicago, IL, USA
Posted on Jun 23, 2024

memQ is spinout from University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory developing a quantum photonic integrated circuit (PIC) platform to build quantum interconnects and networks. memQ’s platform integrates rare-earth ions (as quantum memories) onto commercial foundry silicon PICs for quantum networking. Located in Chicago, memQ’s team is bringing together experts in quantum science, photonics, and nanofabrication to develop the next generation of quantum PICs.

We are seeking an experienced and creative Quantum PIC Engineer to join our lean and highly collaborative team. This person will design and develop photonic devices, circuits, and PIC packaging with an eye towards manufacturability and system level performance. This person will contribute to foundry tapeouts and device characterization, and work with the quantum engineers to use the PICs in quantum network demonstrations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Simulate, Design, and layout PIC components and circuits. Maintain memQ’s internal component library and layout codebase.
  • Develop test setups and procedures for testing components and circuits accurately and at high throughput.
  • Interface with foundries and vendors for coordinating tapeouts, packaging PICs, and purchasing equipment.
  • Generate design and measurement reports for internal deliverables and external customer interaction

Desired Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience (academic/industry) in PIC component and circuit design and testing
  • Experience with PIC device and circuit design (theory), simulation (Lumerical, Synopsis, MEEP), and layout (GDS Factory, Cadence, Klayout) CAD tools.
  • Preferred experience performing tapeouts through a commercial silicon photonics foundry
  • Preferred knowledge of quantum optics/photonics
  • Preferred knowledge of cryogenic experiments
