At Squarespace, we firmly believe that design is not merely "how it looks" but "how it works." With this in mind, our backend engineers work on Product Engineering teams, which are dedicated to creating the most seamless, integrated products possible. You will report to the Product Engineering Team Lead working hybrid-onsite through our New York City headquarters.

We are hiring for the following product team(s):

  • Digital Product Content: This team gives Squarespace website owners the ability to create and sell digital products including online courses, video libraries, membership sites, and more. Engineers work on a balance of existing systems and greenfield projects with real-world customer impact! Online course building, is one of the most requested features among our customers and one of our major priorities!
  • CRM Product: This team gives Squarespace website owners the ability to view, segment, and manage their contacts (Subscribers, Customers, Members, etc.). Engineers work on a mix of existing systems and new services to transform the CRM Product and SQSP Marketing Tools as a whole. The team's current focus areas are 1) Building out a segmentation service 2) Re-shaping our front end and 3) Driving product engagement.

You'll Get To…

  • Write server-side code, create high-volume production applications, and develop prototypes quickly.
  • Lead the development of new features and build backend services with Java.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and designers to provide intuitive customer-focused experiences.
  • Ensure the reliability of systems essential to Squarespace users and businesses powered by Squarespace.
  • Practice disciplined software engineering (e.g. automated testing, code reviews, and writing beautiful, readable code).

Who We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of development experience in Java, Python, Go or another Object-oriented language. Experience developing large-scale software.
  • A solid foundation in computer science, with competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design practices.
  • A sincere commitment to creating readable code and an understanding of database schema design, caching and scalability.
  • A degree in Computer Science or related or equivalent industry experience.

Cash Compensation Range: $110,500 - $199,500 USD

The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, and location, among other factors.

In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include on-target commissions or overtime pay), all Squarespace employees are eligible to receive equity in the company as part of their total compensation.
