Title: Transportation Area Manager, West Coast Operations

Location: Onsite in Moreno Valley, CA

Shift: Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm

Role Description:

We are seeking an energetic and experienced Transportation Manager to further support our transportation expansion. In this role you will be responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of three primary transportation services in and around the West Coast all based out of our Moreno Valley, CA Receiving and Sort Center: West Coast dedicated freight milk runs, pick-up and drop off of packages to our final mile carrier partners, and ShipBob freight moves (B2B, inbound, and/or inventory transfers). Shipbob’s goal is to provide a cost-effective transportation solution that maximizes driver / trailer utilization, drives on-time deliveries / pick-ups, and meets our overarching productivity and merchant expectations. As a vital member of our team, you'll be responsible for interacting with delivery drivers and local dispatch (both freight and final mile), sales, transportation management, and day and night warehouse personnel.

What you’ll do:

  • Own West Coast Dedicated Freight operations
    • Plans the delivery of route to be taken by each driver in the delivery of inventory and packages across ShipBob’s West Coast network.
    • Determines needed stops and most precise use of available trucks to most efficiently meet delivery demands
    • Monitor facility loading / unloading time to most effectively and efficiently utilize the ShipBob truckload fleet and to reduce the cost of delivery related expenses; work with our facility team members to reduce dwell time
    • Determines the most appropriate cubic utilization of truck space in terms of route assigned, stops to be made, customer delivery demands, and unloading efficiency.
    • Prepares loading and driver sheets showing the route assigned and ensures that each driver is provided an accurate and understandable listing of stops for any day; updates this information by completing a weekly and master loading and driver sheet listing for use in planning and evaluation activities.
    • Prepares specific request notes identifying loading and delivery activities as warranted by the delivery schedule to enhance the effectiveness of the delivery activity.
    • Identifies and assigns backhaul orders to the appropriate delivery driver to ensure that the backhaul is assigned to the driver who will be delivering to that area.
    • Updates previous day’s routes by reviewing that days routing sheets and noting any discrepancies or problems and adjusting the sheet for this information to enhance the efficiency of the routing and delivery activity.
    • Reviews truck mileage information into the delivery tracking system for each truck that delivers out of state to provide accurate information for planning and evaluation activities.
    • Prepares relevant route specific reporting / scorecards that captures volume, weight, mileage, stops, detention, and driver hours.
  • Final mile Sort Center
    • In support of transportation management, monitor forecasted volumes to ensure sufficient daily carrier pick-up / drop off capacity.
    • Leverage dedicated freight capacity, route and manage local final mile direct inject runs.
    • Ensure all carrier pick-ups from the West Coast ShipBob Sort Center and drop-offs at local final mile carrier sort centers meet critical injection times so that packages make sort as expected.
    • Report on time pick-up and/or on time drop offs relative to carrier acceptance scans to track performance and make adjustments to route and/or carrier scheduled pick-up times when needed.
    • Escalate carrier performance issues to Carrier Managers.
  • ShipBob Freight
    • Strengthen ShipBob Freight’s key performance indicators with a focus on on-time pick and on-time delivery by closely monitoring carrier and facility performance.
    • In the event of service failures / disruptions root cause and partner with carriers and/or facilities to correct in efforts to protect merchant experience.
    • Review shipments to ensure optimal booking / load plans based on critical shipment attributes that include but are not limited to pallet count, weight, origin, destination, ship by date, and deliver by date.
    • Monitor carrier performance closely and make any necessary adjustments to our carrier portfolio due to noncompliance and/or repeated service failures.
    • Timely address freight inquiries and escalations submitted by both our internal client care teams as well as from the client directly.
    • Maintain multiple reports specific to Freight team standard work.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as necessary.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • 2-3 years’ broad experience in Transportation, experience with final mile carriers and routing.
  • 2-3 years Warehouse experience, fulfillment experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of proper loading techniques; cubic measurement and space utilization techniques; forms, terminology, and information.
  • Solid computer skills and have a working knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Hard working with a focus on learning, detail oriented, and passionate about helping small businesses compete online.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with business stakeholders and carrier partners.
  • Must be flexible and willing to work the demands of the department which may be subject to evenings, weekends and holidays as well as extended shift support as required throughout peak season.

ShipBob believes in transparency while providing a competitive total compensation package with a pay for performance approach. We are targeting a salary range of $66,650 - $71,000 for this role. The full base pay range for this position in our compensation architecture is $52,178 - $86,963.
